A Tribute to Bargain: A Gift of Hope

Raised of $5,000

$0
$5,000

Your gift can have twice the impact. Help us raise $5000 and it will be doubled!

Susan Selvey, a generous supporter, will match donations up to $5,000 for H.O.P.E. Acres' emergency medical fund in honor of her beloved horse Bargain. With Susan's dollar-for-dollar matching donation, we have the potential to raise a total of $10,000!

Susan's deep love of horses during her long career in competitive dressage and the special bond she shared with Bargain (known as Tal-Shaya in the ring) inspires her to give to H.O.P.E. "He gave me so much I would like to give back to the horse community in tribute to him." —Susan

Donations made to the Tribute for Bargain campaign will be matched up to $5,000. Every dollar you give will go twice as far! All funds donated to this campaign will be used for emergency medical expenses. Sometimes horses come to the rescue needing major surgery or other treatments, and it is our goal to always be able to answer their call for help.

Your gift will benefit horses like Callie and Lady. Diagnosed with glaucoma due to long-term eye issues, Lady is scheduled to have her now blind and painful eye removed in the next few weeks. Callie also had an eye removed after she was left blind on that side from an injury neglected by her former owner. Recently she had dental surgery to remove 2 rotten teeth but continues to struggle in her recovery with unforeseen complications and partial facial paralysis. Callie is receiving excellent ongoing care at Palmetto Equine, but we hope to have her back at H.O.P.E. very soon.

Thank you for supporting all of the work that goes into helping a horse become healthy and stay healthy.

About Susan and Bargain

Susan Selvey is an FEI-level competitor and trainer who has worked in the equestrian world for over 30 years. She competed extensively in dressage with her beloved and award-winning Hanoverian Tal-Shaya, known affectionately around the barn as Bargain. Transcending the expectations of his breeder, who let him go at a discount, Bargain and Susan earned numerous medals and awards from the United States Dressage Federation (USDF), the Purebred Hanoverian Association, and the SCFCTA. After surviving a colic surgery, Bargain was retired from competition, but his steady temperament made him an ideal teacher for dressage students. He died in 2016 at age 29.

“He allowed me to learn by trial and error so much about dressage and was the most willing, uncomplicated horse I have ever owned,” she recalled.
